Artist's Description

Misery Creek in Whispering Falls campground, Oregon, United States. We pulled our RV into this deserted campground in late evening, and viewed the waterfall that gives the campground its name. This image is downstream of the waterfall, and seemed magical in the fading light. As darkness closed in, I saw a dark gray with stubby tail rare bird called "American Dipper". They are only found around fast-moving rocky streams. These birds dive from boulders down into the water and glean insects and other prey from under rocks and pebbles. It was fascinating to watch a bird that doesn't look like a waterbird perform like this.
