Description
Still life of a blue bowl of fruit with a white rose. Texture applied to a photograph.
I have been involved in creative works for years.
I once painted in watercolors after dabbling in oils briefly.
My next "thing" was writing. I love suspense, horror, thrillers and police procedural novels, and read them voraciously.
Because of that interest, I joined a local writing group. There, I wrote short stories, humor and nostalgia pieces, but most important of all, started a suspense novel. Then life threw me a curve ball.
Breast cancer is no fun thing, and I spent months in chemotherapy and radiation.
When it was all said and done, I was cancer free.
I abandoned my partly written novel and bought my first serious camera, a Nikon, believing life is too short not to do something that gives me pleasure but also puts me in the nature I so love.
Although writing was stimulating and fun, photography is my true niche.
I bought my first Nikon SLR film camera shortly after radiation ended.
Within months, I abandoned film and went to a Nikon digital camera. It's amazing how the digital cameras keep improving! I started with a Nikon D70 at 6.3mp and now I'm shooting a Nikon D800 at 36.3mp!
My love for the creative process, nature and the animals that live in nature influences my work, although I have branched out in many areas of photography besides nature/animals. An example of this is the image you see now.
I love putting different things together and seeing what works and what doesn't. Then adding beautiful textures to enhance the beauty of the subject.
Living in Oklahoma City with my husband Bob in an urban environment doesn't stop me from being in touch with nature.
I planted a tree in our back yard that has beautiful pink blooms in the spring and small, red crabapples later in the year. This tree makes a great staging area for bird images.
When I tire of that, I jump in my SUV and investigate some nearby lakes. Vacations are a means for more images. I look at everything with a photographer's eye, and notice the tiniest details.
I am a contributing member of Alamy and Nature of Travel online stock agencies.
I never tire of learning something new, including new photoshop skills!
I hope you enjoy viewing this image as much as I enjoyed making it.
