The Gray Hairstreak (Strymon melinus), is one of the most common hairstreaks in North America, ranging over nearly the entire continent. It occurs also throughout Central America and in northern South America.
These butterflies are not much larger than your thumbnail, and that depends on big your thumbnail is. I never knew how beautiful these butterflies were until I captured them with my macro lens. This image has a beautiful orange/yellow texture background, which sets off this tiny creature.
