Description
An Autumn view near sunset from Talimena Scenic Drive in southeast Oklahoma. This beautiful 54 mile drive has been designated a National Scenic Byway. Thousands of people travel the byway in the fall. It begins in Talihena, Oklahoma, on Oklahoma 1 highway, and crosses Winding Stair and Rich Mountains in the Ouachita Forest. It continues into Arkansas on Ark. 88 and ends up on US. 71 in Mena, Arkansas.
The colors depend on how much rain the area receives in a given year, as autumn color depends on moisture anywhere else. On years when rain has been scarce, the tourist numbers go down, on wet years the roads can be full of leaf-peepers. It is a wonderful drive full of twists, turns and low mountains.

Betty LaRue replied:
Thank you, Bob, we do have some hilly country here, with some low mountains. We have prairies, too!
